A Teacher's New Year's Resolution: Brag More

Last month, I joined a friend for dinner and drinks after her Chamber of Commerce "Wednesday Friendsday." Sitting at the martini bar a midst real estate agents and financial advisors, all of whom were strangers to me prior to that evening, I found myself continually excluded from the conversation. Gov. Brown Eliminating Calif. Secretary of Education Post

Obama's goal: 10,000 new science, tech, engineering and math teachers

President Obama set a goal today of recruiting 10,000 teachers in science, technology, engineering and math, calling these subjects essential to competing in the 21st-century global economy. He expressed support for a longer school year in the interview tied to a series of NBC News programs about education. He said improvements will require more than money.

The president called education one of the country's most important economic issues as it competes with China, India and other growing nations that outperform the USA in the classroom.
